What are you checking for??

At some point in time jewlers started to "mark" jewelery indicating the quality of metal. Checking the markings is one of the first things I do. Sometimes and it has happened, a piece of jewelery is marked but does not pass the acid test.

Here is what the markings mean and what I will take:

Decimal equivalents of karat ratings:
.375 = 9K (England and Canada)
.417 = 10K
.583 (.585) = 14K
.625 = 15K (never seen this)
.667 = 16K (never seen this)
.750 = 18K
.833 = 20K (Asia)
.917 = 22K (Asia)
.999 (1000) = 24K pure gold
KP = Karat Plumb (exact amount of gold)

I do not take:

K.P. = Karat Plate
GF = Gold Filled (heavy plating), usually has a fraction, i.e., 1/20 10K GF
GS = Gold Shell
HGE = Heavy Gold Electroplate
.500 = 12K
.333 means 8K
PT950 means Platinum
925 means Sterling Silver
(RGP) Rolled Gold Plated
(RP) Rolled Plated
(EP) Electroplated

A Penny What??

Gold turned into any jeweler is weighed by the pennyweight (DWT). There is an actual formula to figure out how to convert from gram into pennyweight, I would try to explain it here but I think I would look foolish so I found a site that tells it pretty much in English and you don't need a college degree.

"A pennyweight (abbreviation DWT) is one of two measures jewelers use to determine the amount of gold in jewelry. The other is the gold karat, which is a measure of how much of the metal in an item is gold. If you want to figure pennyweight of gold in jewelry..." Click here to continue to read.

Its worth HOW much?

Gold went up. Again.

Will it continue? No one knows and if someone tells you they do then ask them for this Fridays Mega Million lotto numbers because they would be guessing on that also!

If you are watching what the prices are doing, refer to this site. Its live and will show you up to the minute prices.

St. Agnes: College Point, NY

Yesterday, I was at the St. Agnes Craft Fair. It was cold and rainy. There were about 35 vendors who were also there and I have to tell you some of the crafts that people do, amaze me. For me it was a good day. I got two party bookings with a third possible (You know who you are and if you are reading this - call me!), so I was more than happy!

You know its funny in Queens NY - these GOLD parties are just now hitting the surface. Two women this weekend told me that they were also having a GOLD party, unfortunately not with me, but there is interest in hosting and for me that is good as well as the ones who will or do host a party.
My last hostess made $520 just for hosting a party! here is how;
$150.00 Food Reimbursement.
$ 50.00 for booking at a party that she was at (*new incentive)
$320.00 (14 guests sold over $200.00 worth of GOLD and two bags). (Bags count as guests)
*For anyone who books and holds a party prior to December 15th, 2009 will get a $25.00 bonus!! You must mention this blog to receive.

We are RICH!!!

Some of the women at my Party that was held in Whitestone on Friday night were screaming: WE. ARE. RICH!

I will tell you this WHITESTONE, NY ROCKS!!! I had 13 girls attend Fridays party and they BROKE my bank. I paid out over $14,000.00!! Of course, gold is at an all time high so that makes a huge difference...

The hostess that night made $450.00 for hosting my fabulous party!

One of the hostess' guest (who made $2,200)was planning on buying her kitchen set. Another woman (made $1,700) is buying her boots that she had her eye on AND a new outfit. How cool is that?

One of the things that I love to do is to have the guest guess what they THINK they are getting paid. I LOVE IT when a guest under estimates and I get to surprize them with a huge amount.

Why wait? Book a party today and get paid for all the jewelery that is broken, mismatched, gaudy or that ole ex's jewlery. . . . .

How is it done??

The Process:

Check all gold with magnet. This is done because all gold contains alot of metal. IF a piece of GOLD gets picked up by our magnet, we give it back to the owner. All gold contains metal and even though a piece could be marked for either 10K, 14K, 18K or higher it could have more metal than actual gold.

Check For Markings: We take each piece and check to see what it is tagged as. Again, a piece could be tagged 14K but not test for 14K, it might test for 10K. "Mistakenly tagging" was a common practice years ago by jewelers, today I don't this this happens that much.

Acid Test: I will always start with the highest tagged pieces first. I will take all the 18K Gold (or higher) and test those pieces. If the piece of gold passes the acid test it goes into my bucket. I do the same for each level of gold. One by One. Some pieces are not tagged at all and these will be tested for the 14K first and if it fails the 14K test I will re-test for 10K.

Remove Stones: I will always try to remove any and all stones and return them to the owner. But there are some pieces that are OGCG (Only God Could Get) and at that point it is up to the owner if they want the piece back or sell with the stones still in. Class rings are a big culprit, I can not remove those stones, in fact I am not sure anyone can.

Weighing: Once all the jewelry has passed the acid tests the pieces that go into my bucket get weighed: 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, and 24K all get weighed separately. We weigh on the Penny weight and depending on the market value for that day will determine what you will get paid.

Fork up the dough: Not much to tell here: I pay you handsomely and you leave happy!!

Last night was........

A SUCCESS!!!

My hostess from last nights GOLD party - Michelle did great. She wound up having ten girls and nine of them sold more than $200.00 each. Michelle made $330.00 for hosting a GOLD Party!!

Total Gold paid out was over $4.400.00!

The girls were very shocked when we told them what they made. When I cashed out the first guest, I asked her to guess what her gold sold for. She guessed $150 - $200.00 . Close but no cigar. She made $550.00 on her gold!! Her plans for today were to get her hair done, a pedicure and manicure and put some away for Christmas shopping!! Woohoo!!

Heading out..

Heading to a party tonight in the Bronx. This hostess has cancelled three times and she is concerned today will not be a success. I will let you know how my hostess did.

In the past my hostess have made:

Lisa - Little Neck NY- 13 girls sold jewelry 11 were over $200.00. Lisa had her party on a Wednesday night so she got paid:

$150.00 for the 10 guests

$50.00 bonus for the Wednesday Night party.

$220.00 for the 11 girls that sold over $200.00

Her GRAND Total without selling any gold herself she made: $440.00.

In June, I did a party for a woman Doris. Her party broke my bank - not once but TWICE. Let me tell you, I LOVE it when I run out of cash and a manager has to come out and replenish my funds. This has happened twice so far and it is great. Doris made over $770 for hosting a party and we paid out over $23,000 that night!

Fran, my other bank buster made over $630.00 the night of her party and that night we paid out over $10,000!

Way to go ladies, enjoy your cash!!

Hello World!!

Yup - we have come into a time where having a GOLD PARTY is better than having a tupperware party!

Let me start by telling you a bit about myself. I am a local resident of Whitestone and have two boys that attend Catholic schools. I own a home and work full time but that is just not enough. I was always living week to week, pay check to pay check and its frustrating.

A few months back a girlfriend of mine invited me over to her home to a GOLD PARTY. A what? A Gold Party. She told me to go through my old jewelery and pick out the stuff that is broken, old or things that I just don't wear anymore. I honestly did not think I h ad that much but when I started to go through my old stuff I had more earrings that I had lost the other one too and bangle bracelets that I always hated, broken chains, pieces that had missing stones that I would never replace and rings that just did not fit me right. I went to this party hoping for at least $600.00 thinking I could pay the balance of my sons tuition to school. Well - I did not make $600.00. Not even close. I was shocked when the miner told me my JUNK jewelery that I would have tossed or sold in a garage sale was worth $2,970.00!

...that number is not a typo! I made $2,970.00 in less than 15 minutes with this miner. HOLY HAT! I was hooked.

I thought about hosting a party of my own the incentives were great: By being a host I would earn:

$150.00 for having a party and having 10 guests.

$50.00 IF I had my party on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday Night.

PLUS - for every guest that sells over $200.00 of GOLD, I would earn $20.00 for each one.

So I figured I would host my own. But then the miner went one step further and asked if I would be interested in joining their "team". She told me that it costs me almost nothing to join (few supplies) and that all my mining tools and funds to pay out would be supplied by the company, I had nothing to lose. For every party that I worked I would earn 4% of total GOLD paid out. So on a $10,000 party - I would earn $400.00 just like that.

There is more: I would be paid for my training (yes, you need to be trained) and I would be guided through the process of becoming a miner. I decided right then and there that this is a new craze and I could get some friends to host a party for me and I could USE THE MONEY - so this was a no brainer for me. I joined that night. I became a miner and I love it.

Through this blog, I am going to talk more and more of each aspect of being a miner, being a hostess and what GOLD is worth and why you should either join me or host a party of your own.
